Consider More Than Just the Camera
I may have mentioned this briefly in a previous post, but the many beginners are focusing too much on the camera without considering other factors which will affect them in the near future.
You first SLR camera is likely to stay with you for some time, you may even keep it for as long as you can before selling it or passing it on to someone else. So in other words, this will be the only camera you’ll have until you splash out another couple of hundred of dollars on a new one, but this time it’s likely to cost a lot more.
So what exactly aren’t the newbies taking into account then?
Well as you are well aware that one the major features of SLR’s is the ability interchange lenses as we’ve mentioned before. This is what is usually not being considered when first cameras are sometimes bought. You should and will buy new lenses for your camera as this is really what photography is all about. If you don’t you’re greatly limited and you are obviously not using your camera to its full capabilities.
So apart from the usual features of the camera we look for when purchasing our first SLR, we also need to research into the other bits and pieces we will need to down the road. For example, Canon has been in the camera business for a very long time. They started out like many other well-known names with film SLR’s and began dominating the market with fierce competition from Nikon, Olympus and others. However, today, it’s isn’t hard at all finding a lens for one of those cameras – everyone sells Canon and Nikon lenses, they are widely available.
On the other hand, other companies that have just had the digital experience like Sony, may be that much more limited to the availability of lenses and other compatible accessories. Though, there is no doubt that Sony cameras perform, even their entry level model, the A200 is an incredible piece of kit, but at the same time you can find another SLR camera cheaper.
So, taking all this into account when getting yourself a brand new spanking camera, you should be left with a device that will last you long and won’t give you compatibility issues down the line. The last thing you want to do is to have to buy another one becuase that camera you bought 2 years ago no longer suits your needs!
